11th Of May 2019

This isn’t really a post about today, I did do some editing today but that’s about it. To be fair that’s more than I normally do on a Saturday, but this is more about the the last week.

Last weekend was a lot of fun. I had a night out with friends for a good friends Birthday. Then Sunday I had a Write-In during part of the day, which is always fun. Then in the evening I was out again and on Monday, a bank holiday here in the UK, I did some editing on the vampire and got the first draft of one of the episodes done.

That bank holiday weekend was a good one, I had a lot of fun with good people and it set me up for a decent week. I think I’m in the 3k words for the week area and I feel like I’m getting back into the swing of things.

I’ve really slacked with reading the six weeks. I have got stuck into a couple of comics though. Judge Dredd: The Cursed Earth was really damn good! I’ve not yet read a Judge Dredd story I haven’t liked. I’ll move into some of the other 2000AD characters in the future as everything I’ve read of theirs is Judge Dredd or the Insurrection story, which takes place in the Judge Dredd universe.

I’ve also read the second Rat Queens Volume as well. The Far Reaching Tentacles of N’rygoth was a lot of fun. I’m not a big swords and sorcery person. I don’t mind it but it doesn’t easily hook me. Rat Queens, in these first two volumes I’ve read has. I’ve got the next three volumes to check out as well as more Judge Dredd.

What I do need to do is get stuck into Anarch by Dan Abnett again. I’m enjoying it but need to get back in the habit of reading again.

I am going to get back to my daily and weekly to do lists. This has worked briefly before so I’m hoping it’ll be something I can build on and make part of my regular routine. That’s first job tomorrow. Now, I’m off to bed.

Have fun, everyone!

23th of December 2018

I’ve had a few busy days between work, our works Christmas Party and a few bits and pieces that needed to get done today.

I have written a few words in the last few days though, not many but a few. Friday I didn’t write anything, but I did watch Bird Box on Netflix which is based on the book by Josh Malerman. I listened to the book a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it, and I think the film is a good adaptation of the book. The odd change felt a little unnecessary but it still worked overall, and it stayed loyal to the ending of the book.

Yesterday I managed to get 260 words written, god knows when because it was a damn busy day and then the Christmas Party. I’m not much of a drinker but did have a fair few last night, but no hangover today! So that’s a win if you ask me.

Today I had a bit of running around to do so didn’t really have a lot of time to spend at the keyboard but have managed 386 words for the day. I probably added another hundred or so but did some editing which meant a few words were deleted but I’m happy with what I did today.

I tried to read a DC Rebirth comic the other day, and I just couldn’t get into it. I was only a few pages in but it just didn’t hook me. I’m a comic book latecomer and I’ve liked some of the Marvel and DC stuff  I’ve read but the last few pieces I’ve not been gripped by. This is something I’ve been thinking for a while, that Marvel and DC comics really aren’t for me. I’ve got a few on my to-read shelf so I will check those out, and I really want to re-read DCs Hush again next year.

I’m not giving up on comics though, I’ve really enjoyed the 2000AD ones I’ve read, mainly Judge Dredd ones so far but I’ve begun Insurrection by Dan Abnett and Colin MacNeil. I’m a huge fan of Dan Abnett and I like that this one is set in the Judge Dredd universe but I don’t believe he appears in it. So far I’m really enjoying it and looking forward to really getting stuck in over the next couple of days.

7-5-17

Today started fast, with a 1000 words and a digital edit on a short story by 9am. I did this because I woke up in a really bad mood, and writing seemed to be the only thing that made sense. It put me in a good mood before going down into Rochester for a bit of lunch and to pop into Get Ready Retro, a local comic book shop. I managed to pick up the next volume of Wilds End (The Enemy Within) by Dan Abnett and I.N.J. Culbard. I really liked the first one and I’m looking forward to reading this one.

Those thousand words I wrote this morning was on the fanfic piece and the short story is for one of the story submissions I’ve got coming up. I’ve printed it off and will red-pen it tomorrow.

The rest of the day has been spent with my feet up playing video games and binging some shows on Netflix. Aside from having to shoot into work for forty-five minutes, that was my day.

Todays Work

I think this Sunday is going to be an odd one for what I manage to get done. I’ve got my Grandad  and my great aunt/Godmother coming over for dinner today. Dad and I will also take down an old shed that’s in our garden, where it currently stands is where we want to place a new henhouse, so it has to come down. I’m not expecting that to take too long though. We’re actually going to dismantle it as opposed to knock it down with sledge hammers.

I think it’ll be this evening that I get the bulk of my writing done though as I’ll be being social (okay come about 2:30 I may come upstairs and write whilst listening to the football 😉 ) But I’ll have my iPad downstairs with me and I’ll be able to get some plotting, outlining and brainstorming down whilst downstairs. I’ll probably do a little comic book reading too. I’m lucky in that I can multitask like that but I can’t write in those circumstances. I am still aiming for a 2000 word day as well as getting some outlining done for a novella I want to write in 2015.

That’s how my day is looking like it’s shaping up, and by the end of the day hopefully it’ll have been as productive as I’m hoping it will be.

Have a good Sunday everyone 🙂

Something Different

I’m not really a fan of comic books, I’m not against them or look down on them or anything I’m just not that big a fan of them. As a kid I would read The Beano and in my early teens, maybe even just before, I used to read the Commando action comics which I wish I still had. My Granddad got me into these little stories. These are what I would read late at night under my duvet with a torch when I was supposed to be sleeping. Most of the ones that I read were World War Two stories which at the time fascinated me. This was when I wrote my first story, it was a WWII story and it must have been really, really bad. Again I wish that I still had it just to torture myself lol Getting to my point though I am just about to start reading Imperial Gothic by Dan Abnett. It is a collection of Abnett’s Warhammer 40k comics that I have had for a few years but have never gotten around to reading. I think that I may struggle because as I said, I’m not a fan of them but I am a big fan of Abnett’s Gaunt’s Ghosts series and I want to track down more of his work.
