My plans to do a chunk of editing today crashed and burned before they started this morning when my desktop decide to faff about. So I retreated to my laptop and didn’t get as much done this morning as I’d planned.

This afternoon I tried to nap and catch up on some of the sleep I’ve lost recently. I know I’m never going to catch up on that sleep, but I needed to get a little rest. I didn’t though. It was very unsettled with lots of waking up throughout. Mainly thanks to Raven wanting attention.

When I gave up trying to nap I watched some Friday Night Dinner while editing. A brief stop for dinner and then I watched Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World while editing. At the end of play I’d worked through one chapter, which was about five or six thousand words.

I know I said I was going to focus on one project but my head really isn’t cooperating with that. So I think I’m going to try and jump between projects depending on where my head is telling me to go. Until I’ve built up some discipline I think I’ve just got to write whatever my brain is leaning towards.

Not distracting at all 🙄😂

I’m not expecting to get much done tomorrow, between work and a few calls I’ve got to make I can’t see me having a lot of time till later in the evening. So I’m going to try then.

Good evening, folks! How’s everyone doing tonight? I haven’t got a lot done today. I had a later shift at work so spent most this morning chilling out but did get some editing done. The first chapter of vampire book is done, but I’m going to go back through and give it another pass.

I’m off tomorrow, so I’m tempted to give a solid go of writing/editing. Even if it’s just the morning I think it’ll do me a little good to get solidly stuff into something.

Just a little post tonight. I’m ready to wind down for the night.

Have a good one, folks!

Good evening folks. Well, it was a busy day but not with writing. I got a little editing done this evening. I’m liking this story. It’s the first in the vampire series and one I hope is a strong start.

I am getting a bit of an itch to write something new, I might look up some submission calls and see what’s out there, maybe something will spark an idea. The editing is still my priority though.

Yeah I did a little editing tonight, but I spent most the evening watching movies.

First up was Waterworld with Kevin Costner, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Dennis Hopper. This movie gets a lot of shit, but It’s a fun one. Beautifully shot with a simple, but engaging storyline. It’s one I’d have liked to of seen more from that world as I find it really interesting to see how people survive in that world and the different cultures that have grown from that world.

Then, it’s an old favourite. Total Recall with a Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sharon Stone, Rachel Ticotin, and Michael Ironside based off a Philip K. Dick story and directed by Paul Verhoeven. This movie is just awesome! The story works, the actors are all on point, the gore is nice but not over the top (I don’t mind over the top gore, but it wouldn’t work here). It’s another beautifully shot movie as well. Definitely one that makes me smile.

Good evening all! I got about half an hours work done tonight. All editing on the vampire book. At the moment I feel like this is a preliminary edit as I know I didn’t finish the rewrites when I was working on it last. So I’ll come to a point where I’ve got crack on rewriting as opposed to editing it. I was half thinking about working on multiple edits, but I think I’m just going to stick with this one till it’s done. I’m wondering if chopping and changing when editing isn’t a good idea. I can do it when I’m writing a draft but I’m not sure it’s productive at this stage.

I’m still struggling to sit down and read. I just can’t keep my attention on a book long enough without it wondering off. I need to be able to keep focused for half an hour or so to allow me to get into one of the books I’m trying to read at the moment.

That’s it for now. Another early start tomorrow so I’d like a little down time before I get me head down.

Be safe and half a good one, Folks!

A little “help” I had sorting bookcases out the other day.

Good Morning, 21-7-2020

It is 4am, I’m just getting ready for work and have a few minutes spare so I’m taking the time to pop out a quick post.

Yesterday was spent on the phone getting a few bits and pieces sorted out. I’ve got more non-writing bits to sort out in the coming days which is always fun when dealing with companies. All the stuff which might be stressful was done yesterday, which is why I only manage to edit one small scene.

So I did manage to get my half an hours work done yesterday, even if it didn’t feel like it.

Right, Folks! Have a good day 😊

Good Morning, Monday 20th of July 2020

Good morning, all! I’m faking enthusiasm this morning because it’s the start of a new week. Forget all those negative connotations about hating Monday’s, it’s just another day of the week. In a world where I’d be interested to know how many people still work a 9 to 5 compared to people who work shift work because people who tend to work shifts don’t have a normal working week. That’s something I’ve learnt since working a in a supermarket since April. Each week is different. So Monday isn’t furthest away from not being at work for me anymore. This weeks a prime example, I’m off today.

Now, what am I doing with my day off? I’ve got a lot of phone calls to make…..yay….. I’m not a fan of making calls to companies to chase up this and that. Or change personal information. I hate being on hold and there’s always a chance you end up having to deal with an idiot. But they need doing so I’ll be doing them. Most of my day will be spent doing this. The rest of the day will be spent doing similar but online. Updating details about this and that. Hopefully I’ll have this done by about 6pm then I can do a little editing and watch a movie.

At the start of the post I said about faking enthusiasm, and I am. I am dead tired and a little down at the moment. I’m absolutely not going into details but life’s a little challenging at the moment and I’m trying to drag myself onto the right track again. I’m getting there, but today is a day of sorting things because of that. So come the end of the day I’m going to be a touch drained by it all.

That’s enough rambling from me. I need some breakfast then off to do some prep for today.

Have fun, folks!

Right, so I’ve just counted up the stories that need an edit. It’s eleven…. eleven…… really Peter? Really dude?

Yeah, I’m a little shocked by this. I knew I had a few pieces that needed work, but had no idea it was this many. A couple of them are short stories, but most of them are pieces that are over twenty thousand words. A couple are up there at over fifty thousand words.

So, although not a hard plan for the future I’m going to focus on getting as many of these pieces edited, beta read, professionally edited before deciding whether to send them off to publishers or self-publishing them.

Good evening, folks. How are all you good people doing?

No word counts to report tonight. I have done some editing and although I added words it’s not worth mentioning how many I did add. The important thing is I got two scenes edited. It’s a drop in the ocean of editing I need to do, but it’s a start.

I keep trying to rewrite everything from scratch, but I’ve got a good half a dozen drafts completed of various stories, I just need to go through and do proper edits on them. In a minute I’m going to sit down and list all the drafts I’ve got done and figure out if I want to put them in an order or if I just gonna go with what takes my fancy, I’m tempted to put them in an order and work through them. The key thing I need to do is not do mass rewrites and not to start anything new. I’ve got to stop chasing the shiny new story and just get what I’ve got written polished and ready to get edited and either self-publish them or send them off to publishers.

I’m still trying to get my rhythm back, trying to find some real focus. I feel like I’m getting there day by day.

Today’s picture is Raven watching the birds.

Good Morning May 7th 2020

Good morning! It sounds like the birds are singing happily outside today, I’ve ventured out yet but have work later on.

There’s not much for me to report writing wise. Few words have been written, but a short story has been submitted, had notes back and then sent back to the publisher. This is for an anthology I was invited to submit to.

I can’t remember if I mentioned but I did have a rejection a few weeks ago. It was disappointing but the story is one I love and takes place in my Penal Earth universe so I can always put it in a collection of stories from that setting.

A pretty cloud formation

Living in this locked down world is both strange and interesting. I changed jobs at the start of April (was in the process of before the lockdown was even spoken of) and am now working in a supermarket. So I’ve been going to work as normal, to a degree. But it’s both interesting and frustrating seeing how some people adhere to guild lines on social distancing and how others blatantly disregard those rules. We haven’t got a full lockdown here in the Uk, and I think more people should appreciate that.

That’s all for this morning. I had more I wanted to write but my brain’s decided to misfile they rest of it!

Stay safe everyone, if we keep our heads we can start getting back to a life without restrictions sooner. I’m not going to say back to normal because I’m honestly not sure that’ll happen. Not for some time anyhow.

January 26th 2020

Good afternoon, folks!

I’m on about 7000 words for the month, which isn’t as high as I’d like but much better than having zero words for the month.

Today I wrote zilch! But I did edit two stories. One was an out loud read through which was then sent to my beta readers. The second one was me looking over notes from my beta readers. This was about three work at a guess. I was planning to squeeze in a quick Mando Method between the two but I was pushed for time and wasn’t able to. This sucks a little, but it’s not much good writing every day if I’m not finishing and submitting work.

The End Of All Things

Outside of writing I finished listening to John Scalzi’s The Human Division and listened to the final book in the Old Mans War series, The End Of All Things. Although not as good as The Human Division it’s still a damn fine book which wraps things up well.

Time to wrap this post up. Keep cracking on with those goals and ambitions, folks!
