A Dancing Bear

Over the last few days of last week I was listening to A Dancing Bear by David Free. This is a story that I really love, it gives a lot to think about and the characters are fascinating.  David Free gives the story an interesting pace and his descriptive skills sucked me in as I was listening to the story.

Here’s the podiobooks.com link http://podiobooks.com/title/a-dancing-bear/ The Story can also be found on iTunes.

This is a story that I am very fond of this story, its one that has an ending that makes you think.

Tonights Update

I’ve just a quick little update tonight.

I’d like to give a shout out to Patrick E. McLean who wrote the book How To Succeed In Evil which is a really entertaining book. The characters are brilliant, out there in the odd case but in a good way. This is hugely entertaining and I found myself laughing out loud more than once (I got some funny looks at work).

Theres the link to Mr. McLean’s site, you can also find his work at Podiobooks.com and iTunes.

There’s a sad note here I’m afraid. It was announced today that the actor Richard Briers has passed away. He was 79. Mr. Briers starred in a number of great shows over the years. I’ll remember him mainly for his role as Tom Good in The Good Life and as Hector Naismith MacDonald in Monarch Of The Glen. The most recent thing that I saw him in was Cockneys vs. Zombies. He seemed like a proper gentleman and I will always remember the shows that I saw him and what a talent he was.

R.I.P Mr Richard Briers.

Just A Couple Of Quick Bits

Hey guys I just wanted to give a couple of shout outs and mentions.

Firstly is J.R. Murdock. I listened to a story he wrote about intergalactic haulage called V&A Shipping. This is one of the random podcasts that I have downloaded from podiobooks.com via iTunes which was a random download. I had not heard of it or Mr. Murdock but the story got me from the first line and kept me listening keenly until the end of the story. It did also tug at my heartstrings which I think is always a good sign. It’s a good sci-fi setting and the story itself is engaging. Well worth a listen. Here is the authors website (best web address ever by the way).

One quick other shout out is one that I have done before but it has been a while since they have had a mention and they are the good people over at Adventures In Sci-Fi Publishing.

Their website still looks amazing and is full of great content. Even if you do not write science fiction this podcast is a great listen and the website is great, I really need to get there more often than I do.

With my WIP, it is progressing slowly as I am expanding on some of the pieces that I have written. Next time I do NaNoWriMo hopefully I’ll be able to put this detail in when I write the first draft. It is getting there though 🙂

Mur Lafferty Shout Out

‘Mighty’ Mur Lafferty is I think easily considered the Godmother of the podcasting world. She was one of the first and is still going strong. I’ve listened to a lot of her work and enjoyed it for the most part but it never struck in the way that Scott Sigler or J.C. Hutchins do but her podcast for writers I should Be Writing is essential listening. I Should Be Writing is very helpful to the new writer and Mur Lafferty does not hold anything back. If she is feeling depressed, she talks about it. She is very easy to listen to and does some great interviews.

Lets get to Marco And The Red Granny though.

Think; Aliens with seven senses, artists, writers and death matches on the moon. You need more? Really? It is worth a listen to the first episode at least. Lafferty is a very strong writer and she creates some amazing characters here.

I listened to this today and absolutely fell in love with it, this is my favourite story by Mur Lafferty and I would love to see more in this universe.

The link to Mur Lafferty’s website is below and you can find everything that she produces there. This is an amazing person as well as a writer, please go by and check her out.

You can also find her work on iTunes and at Podiobooks.com
