I’ve watched this film a couple of times and I’m struggling to really get what the makers are trying to do with the film. The plot is kind of thin and the characters just seem to follow through with what the public are expected to think of Hollywood and its hard to really care for them. The dialogue feels like it could have been said in any of a dozen different films. One thing that bothered me was the character Walter, he just did not seem to fit into that environment.
The special effects were beautiful though and I think that maybe there was too much attention on them. If there had been a little more effort on the live action sequences, the characters and dialogue etc. then I Believe this would have been a far superior film. It had the potential to be a Great science fiction film but there was far too much emphases on making it look good. I (try) to write science fiction and alien invasion has always fascinated me but this film feels like it’s under achieved. Rumours are that the people behind the film are going to make at least one more movie. I hope that they do and that they have learnt some lessons and make the next film what this film should have been, because despite the flaws I can see that there is a good movie deep down in Skyline and there is the chance to make the next one a Great science fiction film.
