I was really not expecting to like this as I did not get sucked in by the third film in the franchise but it did make me flinch A couple of times and there was the odd surprise here and there. It was good to see the members of the original cast come back and reprise their roles. Apart from Courtney Cox the other two main characters played by David Arquette and Neve Campbell have not really been in the mainstream for a while and both looked comfortable bringing these characters back to life.
The story is simply that its the anniversary of the Woodsboro murders and Sidney (Neve Campbell) has returned home to promote her first novel and this is when the murders begin once more, and you can imagine the rough progression of the story from there.
One thing about films today that annoys me is when they poke fun at themselves. Kevin Smith does this very well in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back but it’s very hard to do right. Oceans 12 put me off those films to the point where I just could not be bothered with the 3rd film. In the first Scream film it was an intelligent dissection of what a horror film was, and this one has some intelligence to it, but it’s not original anymore. It did not feel like it was breaking new grounds and it kinda of felt like it was saying ‘Dont forget about me’
All in all it was an enjoyable watch but it did not blow my mind or break new ground for me.
