Truth Or Lie

This has been bugging me for A while now, the fact that the world is just full of people trying to lie their way out of trouble.  I don’t like any type of deceit what so ever.  I think once people realise how easy it is to lie they forget about their own integrity.  I understand the need for the little white lies in the world.  The ‘No dear your bottom does not look big in that dress.’ and ‘No officer I was not aware of the speed I was doing.’ and so on but what I’m talking about are the lies which are used to get out of trouble or people moving the goal posts on what is right and wrong.

I try my absolute best not to lie.  I learnt a long time ago that if I screw up its better to hold my hands up and say ‘its my cock up.’  One may still get a severe reprimand for the mistake but at least you deserve a little respect for making A mistake.  I found that if I tried to hide a mistake it would undoubtedly come back to bite me in the arse and the punishment would be far more serious.  I often think when a politician or someone famous has been caught doing something wrong why don’t they just say ‘yep it was me, I was being a total idiot.’  Surely if they take an immediate hit then the story will die down.  If they avoid the press, for example, at all costs then the pres will dig and dig until they get what they want.

Someone once said to me that people who have better educations than most have an arrogance installed in them that no matter what they do it is not wrong, that could be said of celebrities as well.  Surely sleeping with someone who is not your wife or husband for someone in the public is stupid?  How often do we go a week without hearing about this persons liaisons with A mysterious stranger in a hotel room, or a picture of someone taking an illegal substance?  I know we feed on it and it sells but is it what we really need to see every day? All it does is make us think that its okay to do.  The recent riots in the England, how can certain politician  condemn these hooligans when they themselves have just come out of a massive scandal about expenses?  In their case I would imagine its the old cliché of ‘Power breeds corruption’ but that corruption filters through society like poison spreads through a body.

As a culture we’re taught that being honest is for mugs.  How many people sit at home all day watching daytime TV claiming benefits whilst they could be working.  I know someone who claims he can’t work due to A back injury, but he pelts around on his push bike without the hint that he is in pain.  There are genuine people who truly can’t work due to illness, disability etc but I’m sure that if you ask them they would love to be able to work.  I know someone with severe heart failure and they still work a physically tought job.  I used to work with A true gentleman who had kidney failure, he was gutted when he had to give up work (R.I.P Andy).  The people who cannot work because of health reasons must lose out because of all the people who claim sick but are actually able to work.

I am unable to speak of other countries but here in the UK it seems acceptable to lie and cheat our way through life, and when we get caught out we say, ‘I didnt do it’ or ‘Everyone else does it.’  Rarely are we, as a species, able to admit to our wrong doings.
