22nd of July 2021

Good morning, folks!

I’ve not started writing yet, got a tip run to do this morning so need to load the car up first. Then I’ve got an errand or two to run. Then I’ll get a little writing done.

I’ve got beta notes to work on for the kidnapping story, and I need to start the out loud read of Penal Earth.

So, a busy day ahead. Should be good for the body and soul though.

Max says it’s too hot already!

Good Evening, 17th of July 2021

Hey folks, how are we all doing tonight?

I wrote 700 and something words and edited maybe 500 on a low writing day. Tomorrow will be another low writing day as I’ve got a long work day.

This next two weeks or so. Well to the end of the month I know exactly what I want to do. Basically doing an out loud read through of three stories which are all but done. Then I’ll get them sent off to beta readers and then off to editors when I’ve got the money.

Cute Doggo!

Speaking of money, this is the link to my Buy Me A Coffee page. Here you can make a contribution to my writing fund. Any funds I receive go straight to my editing and cover art fund. I do work and put money from my day job into writing, but any additional funds I get I’m super happy for. I understand times are tough, and I’m not going to put this in every post. But a little reminder once in a while doesn’t hurt.

And you know what, all my posts there are free to read! So go and have a look. I do post different content there than I do here. So, it’s worth a look I think.

Right, I’m off! I hope you’re all having a fantastic weekend!

Good Evening, 21st of February 2021

Hey Folks, I hope everyone is well?

Today I managed to write 1384 on the vampire book, finishing another chapter. I’ve also edited 7686 words on the next episode, which I thought I’d finished writing but I haven’t. So that may be tomorrow’s primary writing exercise. I don’t think it’ll take much, I think I just need to add a few lines and then more onto the next episode. I really do not want to keep rewriting and rewriting. I think I’ve got a good bases to work from with what I’ve already got and that it just needs some major edits and then I think I’m going to be in a good place to get the next draft done as only an edit draft. I’m feeling confident with this story over all, and I like the ideas I’ve got for book two. It’s a rich setting and I’m pretty sure I’ve got something good here.

I didn’t get any work done on Black Blood though. My writing energies were pulled to the vampire stories and when I’ve got that vibe I don’t see the point in forcing myself to work on another project as I don’t have any deadlines that are demanding my focus.

I forgot to mention earlier that my planned socially distanced walk with a friend was cancelled, so I made the most of the day. Tomorrow, I’ve got more time to work, which I’m planning on doing. I’ll be off to bed soon and aim to be up bright and early to get a good start.

Today’s random picture is of Max being a typical Doggo!

12th February 2021

Good evening folks!

Just a quick little post for the day. I pulled a few extra hours at work so am wiped out but I will get a little writing work done this evening. What I’d planned to do today I’ll roll over and do it tomorrow. I’m working Sunday, so I’m not expecting to get a lot done then as it’s an all day shift essentially.

If I fits, I sits! And yes, I knew my picture was being taking so I do a cute! 🤣

I’ve mainly early shifts for the next week or so, so what I’m going to do is try and make sure I’m in bed by ten each night. Then when I finish my shift at about midday I get home, lunch, shower and then work for two hours. Then chill out until 10pm when I get my head down.

Part of chilling out will be reading. So I might stretch lights out till 10:30pm, if I’m reading.

Right, I’m going to get some work done, not sure what project yet but probably on Vampire Era.

I likely won’t blog again tonight, so I hope you’re all good and I’ll be back soon!

Good Morning 10th of February 2021

Good morning folks! I managed to get up at about 8am like I planned. I’ve had breakfast, a cuppa tea and eased into my morning nicely. So now it’s time to get cracking.

I’m taking a relative from my household to an appointment mid-morning so I won’t be doing any writing after we return as there’s bits and pieces around home that need doing. Also, not for nothing, I want a little chill out today as well.

Something I need to do for the next couple of weeks is write down what projects I’m working on and a brief summary of what I need to do with each. That way when I sit down to work I can look at this list and I know where to start. Sometimes that’s the hardest part for me, getting going. But once I’m going I’m always good. Even if I’m not feeling it I can normally make a little progress on something. So I’m hoping this’ll help.

That all said, I’m off to get some work done. I think this month will prove to be a low word count month, both in new words and edited. A lot of what needs to be done is prep work for future drafts. So I need to accept that although it won’t feel like I’m making progress, I am.

Right, have a good day folks!

Another video from yesterday 🙂

Getting Back On Track (9/2/21)

The last couple of weeks I haven’t got a lot done. Partly I was feeling unwell, but I think more of it was I was drained. Physically, Mentally, and emotionally. Just sometimes it all catches up with me and I adjust what I’m doing, moving my focus to where it needs to be. Which normally means writing is what suffers.

But, it also helps it. It’s a recharge for me. It allows that creative element of my soul rest, it lets me fill the creative well by (trying) to watch new things. I am heavily influenced by movies and TV, probably more than I realise!

It also helps me refocus. Normally when I take some time away from writing when I come back to it and I’ve got a better idea of where I am and what I need to aim for (which is something I definitely need to do!). It helps ideas grow as well. Even when I’m not writing I’m always thinking about it. There’s one idea or another head-banging in my brain and making sure I know it’s there.

I feel like I’m on the verge of getting back into the flow of it. I felt it a little on Sunday but I pulled a few extra hours at work yesterday which wore me out. I’ve not done a lot today, although I’ve added furry family member videos to YouTube today. I’ve got the next two days off, but have a few bits and pieces outside of writing to do. So I’m not planning to spend two days working on writing but I’m determined to get back on track.

There’s a whole playlist of my Furry Family members on my YouTube channel now 🙂

For now, I’m wiped out. So I’m going to watch a movie, and aim to be up nice and early tomorrow to get a good start to the day.

Good Morning, Sunday 31st of January 2021

If you’ve been reading my blog for a long time you’ll remember that was a time when I’d write a Good Morning, Sunday post each week. I used to write it while sitting in the living room, normally when my parents were at their caravan, before I started writing for the day. I used to work Monday through Saturday so Sundays were a day when I had to get words wrangled, but it almost always started off with me writing those blog posts. I’d have Dizzy sitting on the arm of the chair next to me, and our late doggo Pacey sitting on the floor by my chair. Now, I often work Sundays, but I have other days off during the week. So this pre-writing posts, which I write because they help wake up the productive part of my brain and soul, should be coming more often.

Our late doggo Pacey ❤️

Right, down to today though. I had a lot I was planning to do on Friday that never got off the ground. I gave in and had a PJ day, although I did write a few words Friday evening. So today I’m going to try and knock some of the items off Friday’s to-do list, once I’ve found my diary!

I’d like to start off with writing, but have done the first draft of the story I finished yesterday so I might work on a story I’ve set in the Penal Earth universe. Yeah, that’ll do!

I’ve got to put together a list of details for an artist to do some sketches for Black Blood (okay, it’s my mum! She’s a fantastic artist and when discussing it with her she’s already come up with some good ideas that I worked into the last edit). I’ve already printed off a couple of satellite images of the area that this story primarily takes place in, so I’ll pass them onto her with the rest of the details. This is part of me adding details that I’ve written down over the month to the Scrivener file for this story. That’s going to take some time but it needs to be done. One of my goals for next month is to have the ending mapped out. I know what I want it to be, but I need to map it out so I can hopefully give it the punch I want it to have.

Where I’ve got this coming week off, I want to make it as productive as I can. So I’ve got a list of goals for it that I will hit! I haven’t gone mad and put too much on it. It’s a week off from work and I want some chill out time as well. I’d really love to get into Gears of War 5 and get that finished as well! I’ve a personal matter to see to as well, and I’ve got a socially distanced walk with a friend as well.

Covid isn’t something I’ve really talked about here, but I really should at some point. Both from a creative point of view as well as every day life. But that’s for another post.

Now, I’m going to get some work done! Have an awesome day, folks! Be kind and look through the darkness because there is always light!

Good Morning, Sunday 24th of January!

Okay, so I overslept by two and half hours and am only just getting on with the day. I have tea, I have background noise and I’m raring to go!

I’m aiming for 5000 words edited and a 1000 written (although with overlaying I may sacrifice the 1000 words written).

I am behind where I want to be this month, in reality I’d like to have been done with this read through of Black Blood (still not wild about that title), and I think I would have been if I hadn’t of been unwell at the start of the week. This is where I’m aiming to be able to be fluid with goals. At the start of the month I was aiming to have Black Blood done by February, and as the month progressed I adjust to having it done mid-way, but life does get in the way which means adjustment adapting as we go. I think I can do that, but I need to have a little further mapped out so if I do get ahead then I can see what I have lined up next. So instead of just having the month I’m in mapped out I need to aim to have the next three planned. My white board is big enough for it, so let’s make use of it.

Right, time to stop procrastinating (although I always find starting the day off with a blog post is a nice way to mentally stretch before getting suck in).

So have an awesome day, folks! And I’ll check in this afternoon.

Yesterday Max decided he wanted a cuddle, but doesn’t know how to sit still!

December 24th 2020

Good evening folks, I’ve got a feeling this may end up being a really random post tonight. I’ve not done any writing today, or much thinking about writing. I was up at 4am for a 6am work start. I’ve had 5am, another 6am, and a 4am start this week. So I’ve spent a lot of the afternoons this week napping. I’ve also been trying not to think about writing for a few days. I’ve got a couple of stories where I am stuck with them, and I need to let the dust setting around them.

With Black Blood (still not wild about that title), I am really tempted to do a read through/edit and then write the ending once I’ve done the read through and have a stack of notes.

When I say read through/edit I mean I’ll work my way through what I’ve written and clearing up any grammar errors and more softer changes like how some sentences are structured. A lot of what I am going to do with the read through is write details down; character names, locations, personal quirks. This is a habit I need to get into better when I’m working on a first draft. Then I’m not going to have as many XXX’s as space fillers.

I’ve got a short story I want to get cracking on soon, I just need to think it through a little and have something to build from. Normally when I write I have an image in my head to start from, a foundation that I use to build those first few thousand words. Once I’ve got that, I’ve got a good idea of where I’m going. So I need to muse on that one a bit.

Penal Earth is still sitting. I’m probably going to do something similar to what I plan on doing with Black Blood, and do a read through and sort out the grammar edits and so on. I’m happy with the way the draft has gone, and I’m looking forward to looking through it again.

(yes, I know this post is going up a day after it was meant to be, but I had to stop halfway through the post and didn’t manage to get back to it again.)

There’s a few pics of our furry family members ☺️

NaNoWriMo 2020: Day Twenty-Seven

1103 today. I was aiming for 2000 but I hit the wall and I’m trying to listen to my body more and instead of pushing that bit further I called it a day.

I have to understand my limitations better, understand just how much I can push myself and when I do need to back off.

I need about 8000 words by midnight on Monday. Can I do it? Honestly, I don’t know but I’m going to try!

Max this morning 😊
