12th of March 2020

Good evening, folks! I’m just pulling in with a quick little post. I’m nearing the end of the story I’ve been working on this year. It’s about 26k at the moment and I think I’ve got a couple more thousand words to go but as always, I don’t know. I’m hoping the ending is going to be pretty epic, I know roughly what I want to write but again, as always, I don’t know. The story could go off in its own direction once I get stuck in.

I’m thinking about the next project. I’ve got two older ones that I really want to whip into shape this year. At the moment I don’t have much time to write, but hopefully that’s going to change at some point. I really hope I’ve got a good idea how how to approach these two pieces now. Something I tend to be lazy about doing is reading what I’ve already written and making notes and so on. I’m going to do this when I get stuck into the two projects, and hopefully do it right.

There was another submission call I sat for a smaller published that I’d love to work for but I think I might be pushing my luck to get a story for the anthology done in time. I need to look up the deadline for submissions on that one.

Okay, so this wasn’t as quick a post as I was expecting (it his happens more than I’d like to admit!). Life is busy and I’ve got a lot going on, but I’m still knocking out a few words and have plenty on my mind when it comes to writing.

Some notebook porn for all who stop by.

Good Morning Sunday 10th March 2019

Good morning! I have been up for about an hour and have tidied up from last nights movie night (Deadpool double feature!). There wasn’t much to tidy up to be fair, my small circle of friends that are within driving distance are an awesome group and don’t make a mess. I did a few other little bits and pieces too and once I’ve written this post I’ll be onto writing and abusing some words.

Todays word will mainly be on the vampire book. The first draft of CS1 is done and I won’t be looking on that again for a few weeks now. Something I need to get in the habit of is leaving a story to rest for a while, to let it settle and work open something else before I start the editing process. But I can’t leave it too long because I’ll fall into my old routine of editing and rewriting things to death (I do fear I’m doing this with the vampire book but we’ll see how it goes once I’m deeper in). I’ve also got to make sure I’ve got something else I can get stuck into when I’ve got a draft done. This shouldn’t be a problem because I’ve got about ten pieces from last years NaNoWriMo that I can continue with.

At the moment I do have a lot I can work with, I’ve also got some plans for various projects I need to get going properly. Here’s where its going to get difficult for me, I need to do better at being organised and keeping track of what I’m doing. I need to have a sit down and think about that side of the job.

Now, I’m off to write! I hope you all have a fantastic Sunday!

The Future of the Terminator Movies

A couple of weeks ago a few articles began to appear on social media that James Cameron will be regaining the rights to the Terminator movies in 2019, and that he is eyeing Deadpool director Tim Miller to play a part in future instalments.

Now, from what I can make out this is just all rumours, but if there is some truth to it then it could be a game-changer for the Terminator movies. Cameron was the man who built the universe in the first two movies, and I’d like to think that he could take them back to that dark and gritty universe that he created. If we look at the films that he wasn’t involved in, Terminator 3:Rise of the Machines, Terminator: Salvation, and Terminator: Genisys, none of them hit home. Each one failed in one way or another (although I’m quite fond of Salvation as it took the story to the future, after Judgment Day, and it almost hit the mark), and didn’t have anything that really matched up to Cameron’s original two movies. I’ve got a special distaste for Genisys as it erases almost all of those two original movies, and T3 and Salvation, from the timeline. I’ve tried watching it multiple times, and will most likely try multiple times again, but I can’t see me ever liking it. I know filmmakers don’t go out to make a bad movie, and I hope they didn’t write the script with the intention of pissing fans off with what they done in the movie. I personally think they just wanted to get away from the original films and do something different to what we’d seen before.

If Cameron is coming back to the series he could still make something that doesn’t match up to what he did with the first two movies, but I’ve got more faith that he’ll give us something that has depth, quality, consistency, attention to detail, and some respect for Terminator 1 & 2.

We’ll have to wait and see though.

Deadpool

I haven’t really spoken here much about Deadpool and just how much I love this movie. I know that puts me in with a lot of people because let’s face it, the movie rocks and that’s been reflected by how much cash it’s made.

When it first got announced that Deadpool was finally coming to the big screen I was cautiously optimistic. After Fox’s last attempt at Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I think I was right to feel a little cautious. All the set photos that got released looked pretty cool, but what really blew up for me was the trailer! Damn that kicked ass! After that and the subsequent trailers and all of the advertising for Deadpool, I was really pumped.

I wasn’t disappointed. Right from the credits I was laughing, and it just got funnier and funnier. I liked the storyline and how it was laid out. The characters around Deadpool were  good and all of the actors held their own very well. Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool, period. Morena Baccarin looked like she had a lot of fun as Vanessa. I’m not gonna list all of the characters and the actors, but they all kicked ass. I think they understood what the director and writers were aiming for.

Now I’ve only read a little of the comics, and I’ve played the Deadpool game on Xbox 360, so I know the character a bit but I wouldn’t say I’m a die hard fan, but from what I know of Deadpool I don’t think I could have wanted this movie any different. It wasn’t only funny but it was funny to the point of bad taste at times, but it worked. Not once did it apologise for itself in anyway and it wasn’t scared to push past that bad taste line. The reason why it worked so well was because they didn’t hold back. It’s Deadpool, it’s meant to be like this and that’s why they managed to pull it off.

I did go and see it twice, and I will be buying the Blu-Ray when it comes out. There’s a lot of big movies and TV events come this year that I’m excited about and Deadpool has set the bar very high.

A Quick Update

Over the last week i’ve managed to make some decent progress on Earth, After Liberation and at times I even think I might be able to get this draft done before NaNoWriMo starts but we’ll see what the next few weeks bring.

Tonight I have spent a little time getting prepped for NaNo over at the site and reading through a few notes I’ve already got for my story this year. What I’m planning to do is write the sequel to Earth, After Liberation (which I wrote during NaNo2013) and then next year I’ll write the third part of the trilogy during NaNo2015. I know the tone I’d like to set for this years novel and I know how it’ll start and what the final scene is going to be. I know the rough course of the story between these two points but until I start writing I can’t say how it’s going to go.

Today didn’t go quite as planned though, I was hoping to get a good early start today but I was out celebrating a dear friends birthday last night and didn’t get home till close to 2am, and then laid in till almost 11am. I didn’t get started till gone 12 but still managed to get a fair bit done.

Now I’m off to play some Deadpool on me Xbox.
