13th July 2021

8550 edited on the vampire book today, plus added 111 words to it. Which brings that edit to an end. What I’ll do now is continue rewriting the section I started the other day and see how it comes together.

After that I called it a day with the writing. I had a few bits and pieces to do so I cracked on with those and come tomorrow I’ll be writing again.

In addition to the vampire piece rewrite I’ve got the story from NaNoWriMo 2019 to work on. I think those two will be my focus for a few days and the. I’ll likely do a read through of the editors notes for zombie.

Raven deciding I was a seat, and can you tell I’d not had tea when this picture was taken?

For now, I’m gonna watch a movie and then get to bed.

Have an awesome evening all!

Good Evening, 12th July 2021

Hey folks, I’ve done 6200 words edited on the vampire book, and just shy of 800 words written on a new short story today.

I’m nearing the end of the vampire edit now. Only two more chapters to go, not sure how many words that is.

The short story is one that I started in 2019 for NaNoWriMo and I feel like I can actually get it to somewhere that’ll be good now. I’d ran out of steam with it in NaNo 2019 but now it’s speaking to me.

I woke up this morning to a mouse on my floor, obviously Raven wanted to play overnight!

Overall, a productive day and a good start to the week.

Base Touch

Hey folks! I just wanted to shoot out a quick post and give an update to where I’m at. I’ve got a major NaNoWriMo hangover. I crashed and burned this past November. With prepping for some changes in my personal life I didn’t do well at NaNo at all. I got a personal worse word count wise, but I have a few threads I can work with. So it’s not a total loss.

There was a couple of other writing problems I had last month that I’m not ready to discuss here, but they’re having an effect on the fact that writing has been very hard for me the past few weeks. I think I’m coming out of it now but I’m going to have to fully re-evaluate my goals going forward and make them more attainable.

That’s me done for the night. I’m feeling back to the onwards and upwards mindset and hope I’ll get back into the rhythm of it all soon.

25th November 2019

Today I’ve written 700 words. All of which were done during my lunch break. I’ve passed 12k now and am not even going to hit 20k. I’m not happy about this, but I can live with it.

The last few months have been super busy but for all the right reasons. The biggest, and only, downside is that I haven’t been able to keep up with writing. I’ve had a couple of big failures (okay, not that big but they suck) where I’ve felt pretty desolate. One thing in particular recently dented me pretty hard as I realised I’m not capable, or maybe ready, to be a person in my writing community where I can be somewhat of a leader. After I had that revelation I came the closes to quitting writing that I’ve ever been. Even to the point where I had two major writing related commitments that I was going to complete and then quit.

I’m past that feeling of desolation though. I’m feeling energised and I’m having ideas again. I need to find a better way to make the most of my time though. That’s something I’ll be working on in the near future.

I often find listening to podcasts quite inspiring. Especially when they’re talking to someone who is working their arse off to get to their goals. An episode of The Horror Show with Brian Keene featured writer and musician Matt Hayward and each time I hear this episode I can’t help but be inspired. Please clicky the link and see what I mean.

13th November 2019

Today I’ve written 813 words for a total of 7318 words for the month. I know I should be at about 21000 but I’m not. I’ve had a lot going on this month away from writing but hopefully from here on out I can get back on track, well I can get back into writing regularly again.

I am still working on the short stories for my NaNoWriMo this year. Pretty much doing the same thing as I did last year which worked well for me. I think I’d have had similar success this year but just so much has been going on having the time has been challenging. I’ve not been hooked on one yet. I still feel like I’m finding my rhythm, but that said the one I’ve been focused on the last few days seems to be showing potential.

I am all at sea a little at the moment. I’m going to have realign myself a little over the next few days so I can get back on track properly.

11th of November 2019

Hey folks! Most likely a quick little post tonight. Writing has been slow, which means I’m super behind on NaNoWriMo. Life has been incredibly busy of late and if I’m honest I’m not expecting to hit the 50k by the end of the month, but I’ll persist and see what I have when the 30th is drawing to a stop.

As I said, a quick post. I’ll just end with a mention that I’ve started listening to a complete works of H.P. Lovecraft audiobook. I’m not far in yet but it’s not bad. I still think of myself as a newbie with horror so felt that I needed to check out some of the history of the genre. Where else to start but the godfather of Cosmic horror.

18th October 2019

Good morning folks. I’m having a play with the scheduling feature, so if this doesn’t go live at 11am I made a booboo somewhere!

Today, or yesterday as it were I wrote about 500 words but I did a lot of editing in the time I had available to me. I’m now at the point of CS1 where I’ve got to decide what direction to take the story in. I’ve got two choices, but I’m kinda tempted to try and merge the two and see what happens.

Where I’m thinking about this years NaNo I’ve realised I’ve still not gone through and edited what I done last year. I’ve done a couple but that’s about it. I’ve got ten short stories in various stages of first drafts and I need to get them tidied up. Which is making me think that next year is going to be a heavy editing year. I’m considering dropping my word count target to something like 10k a month and going heavy on editing.

That’s the lot for now, I’ll end with a cute picture of a cat that I’ve just taken.

17th October 2019

Good evening, folks. It’s been a busy week so far, but I have got a few words written. Granted it’s not as many as I’d have liked but it’s still words down. It’s not that many words as much of it is editing. Today is a good example. I wrote 334 on CS1 over yesterday and today, but edited three or four chapters. So words were taken out while others were added.

I do have to keep reminding myself that even if I don’t hit a 1000 words a day I’m still making progress as I’m editing. It’s a key part of the process that I know a lot of writers despise, but it’s something I don’t mind. It’s all part of getting a book from start to finish. It needs to be done.

I’m still not sure what I’m going to do with the ending of CS1 just yet. I’ve got two options I can go in, I just have no idea at the moment which way to go with it. At the moment I think I’ll do what I’ve done in the pass and see where it goes while I’m working on it.

NaNoWriMo preparation is moving slowly but I’ve got enough to get me going and then rolling if I get stuck. I’m going for the same method last year of short stories and novellas. So when I do get stuck on one, which will happen, I can hop over onto another one. This worked well for me last year, and I think it’ll work for me nicely this year. Although I’m not planning for NaNoWriMo 2020 just yet I think I will go back to a single story then. I’ve got a few ideas in mind for what I’m going to have a go at.

Right, it’s almost my bedtime so I’m calling it a night. Have a good one folks!

9th of October 2019

Evening, folks. I am super knackered tonight. It’s been a long but decent day where I wrote 1472 words on the fan fiction piece.

I was planning on getting back to CS1 but I just needed to write today. Going to the Write-In tonight was good. It was low-key tonight but still good. I got a good few words written then and during my lunch break. I also did some minor NaNo planning this evening as well. I’ve got a couple of ideas that have really tickled my fancy so far, but until I start writing them it’s hard to know which ones will take off.

Audiobook wise I listened to Armand Rosamilia’s Darlene Bobich Zombie Killer today. This is a rare occasion where I’d forgotten that I’d read this one already. Within ten minutes or so I’d realised that I knew the story, but it was still damn good listening to it. I recall liking the way it was put together. I hadn’t come across anything like it before and it serves as a real nice little taster for what Armand Rosamilia has in store for this series (it’s one of his Dying Days books). I am looking forward to checking out more of these in the coming months.

Although I’ve listened to a lot of audiobooks recently I really need to get my head into a book again soon. I’ve got Appetite by Anita Cassidy that I started recently that I’m going to dive into. This isn’t my normal genre but I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been to numerous Write-in’s with Anita and she is a fantastic human being who has been good to me over the years and I’m so pleased to see her doing well.

Right folks, time to call it a night. I’m going to read a little of Appetite and then get to bed. Have an awesome one, everybody!

4th of October 2019

Good evening folks. I have been writing this week but my word counts have been up and down a little. On Monday I wrote 1426 words. Tuesday was 1044, Wednesday was 1065, Thursday was 261, and today I’ve written 510.

I’ve got to admit yesterday and today those numbers are a little fluffy as I didn’t track my words yesterday before I started writing today.

I’m happy with the fact that I am writing every day, but I need to get consistent with that 1000 words a day, then pick it up until I’m hitting about 1500 words a day. Then when NaNoWriMo starts I’ve not got far to go to hit the daily goal.

For NaNo I’m going to go for a short story collection like I did last year. I found this works well as when I get stuck on one story, I can just hop over to another one. The only thing different I might do is aim more for novella length pieces. I’m even thinking about rewriting some of my older short stories. I’ve got one in particular that is speaking very loudly to me. As always though, we’ll see how it goes. Last year stories that I had a lot of expectation for fizzled out while others surprised me with how deeply I got stuck into them.

Talking about those stories from last year, I really need to work on getting them tidied up. Only two of them have grown into something that is near complete. I need to work on my organisation skills.

Right, that’s it for the night. I’m going to chill out for a little while and then bed. Have a good one, folks!
