Changing Mindset

Yesterday I didn’t get anything done. By the time I got home and sorted a few pieces out it was well gone eight and I was just wiped out. So I didn’t do anything aside from making a few notes on a couple of projects.

I had a decent day with mindset though; I’ve been re-listening to The Nerdist Way by the awesome Chris Hardwick. I’ve  had this on audiobook for a couple of year but have only listened to it once, so I decided to listen to it again and where I’m a little more mature a lot more of the content of Hardwick’s book makes sense to me. Hardwick isn’t some self-proclaimed life coach, if you don’t know the name he’s a stand up comedian, TV Presenter, Podcaster, gave birth to Nerdist, and a shed tonne of other things. What I like about this book it Hardwick is talking about the things that he has done to make his life better, and although it doesn’t necessarily match what I’d like to do, or am even in a position to do it’s been a great eye opener and I’m going to listen to it a few more times in the next few months and try to strengthen this pro-active mindset it’s fueling.

This coincides with a general desire to live a little better then I have been having. I’d like to live a little healthier, live with a little more focus as well and make better use of my time.

When I am being productive I feel so much happier in myself, and it’s a feeling I’d like to get more used to. With all the story ideas bouncing around my head there’s no reason why I can’t achieve more than I am now.

Chris Hardwick and Nerdist Shout Out

I’ve been listening to the Nerdist Podcast for a couple of years now, I’ve blogged about it in the past, but I want to talk a little about Chris Hardwick and his book, The Nerdist Way: How to Reach the Next (In Real Life). I listened to the audiobook which he narrates himself and he makes it a lot of fun. The book I’ve found really helpful in just the everyday stuff Hardwick talks about but most of my admiration for him comes from how he is as a person. He’s very optimistic and encouraging of following ones dreams. I’ve never heard him say anything malicious about anyone, he may crack the odd joke here and there (he is a stand up comedian too by the way) but generally he comes across as a stand-up bloke.

Hardwick decided to only work on things that he had a passion for and that started off the Nerdist network. In this he seems to be enjoying a very productive and successful career. He’s very supportive of his friends and is always doing something. I’ve heard him say more then once that he is a workaholic.

His positivity has ebbed over to me at a time when I’ve been looking at myself and focusing in on the good part of me that I want to overrule the more negative crap that we all have inside of us. Chris Hardwick has become one of the people that truly inspires me and I’ll be following him for a long time.

Nerdist Shout Out

Hey guys and gals, I’m just here to write a quick shout out to the team over at http://www.nerdist.com/ I listen to their podcast and I have grown to look forward to each new episode coming out. When I first started listening to the podcast, hosted by Chris Hardwick, Matt Mira and Jonah Ray, I would only listen to the interviews they did with names I knew of but as time has gone by I listen to each and every episode simply because they always have amazing people on the show. I’ve learnt  so much about some great people who I knew of those who I had never heard of before. There has even been people who I didn’t like from what I had seen of them in movies etc. but after hearing them on the show I realised that I was mistaking the person with a character.

This is an awesome podcast and I strongly recommend it if you like listening to interesting people talking.

Nerdist.com

As I said in my last post I’ve been listening to a lot of the Nerdist podcast, http://www.nerdist.com/ It is an awesome podcast that is not only incredibly funny and entertaining it is also very motivating.  Hearing what these often creative people are doing is great. Seth Green For example has about a dozen things going on. There is a lot of talk about people creating and following their dreams and talking in depth about the work they’ve done. So often we only see a lot of actors and so forth in character so its been great to see the real people and get an insight into what they think of their craft and their lives.

The gang, led by Chris Hardwick have some amazing guests on the show. Ranging from pretty much the entire cast from Star Trek: The Next Generation through to Kevin Bacon, Kevin Smith, John DiMaggio and Billy West.  I especially loved this episode featuring the actor Thomas Jane, http://www.nerdist.com/2012/08/nerdist-podcast-thomas-jane/

The Nerdist team seem like they have a lot of fun doing these interviews, I say interview they are nothing like normal interviews, these are conversations which are generally free flowing and seem like a hell of a lot of fun. I haven’t listened to them all but there is a pretty chilled out vibe in the show.

Please check it out because it’s an awesome show 🙂
