Writing has slowed a fair bit the last couple of days. I am noticing on the days I’m at the day job I’m a lot less productive at the moment, so I’m going to try and figure out how I can turn that around.
I do have some time off coming up, so I’m going to try and maximise that time. I’ve got a number of projects at different stages and I want to get these completed so I’m going into NaNo fresh and then start on the next stages of them after NaNo.
That’s all for now, I’m knackered after a ten hour shift.
I’ve edited 9650 words on Black Blood (11,156 yesterday), which wraps up that pass. I don’t think I can get it any cleaner, I think it’s pretty solid as it is, and the next stage is to read through a paper copy of it to make sure I’ve not missed anything blatantly obvious and then it’s off to an editor.
So that’s one of my tasks off the board before NaNo, and tomorrow I’ll be getting into the final few tweaks on the Vampire Book. That shouldn’t take long so I’m tempted to blitz through it in one go, but I’ll see how I feel when I get stuck in.
I’ve done some organisation in my office today to try and maximise it for when it’s in its other uses, and I think it works well.
What’s next for today? Some down time as I’m back at work tomorrow after a couple of days off.
This morning I have edited 14745 words on the Vampire book, and that edit is done! One last pass for me. It’s printing out as we speak and I’m going to go through with a red pen and make sure there are no silly grammar, spelling, or plot hole I’ve missed.
Needless to say it feels good having this one this close to being wrapped up. That makes it three that are almost ready for publishing. Zombie, Penal Earth, and Vampire Era. Very close is Black Blood.
I’m making this call now, but I don’t think Zombie will be out this year. It’s a financial situation in that it’s money for the cover art (which looks fantastic by the way), thankfully I have a really awesome cover artist who is very understanding.
Although I don’t think it’ll be out this year, I’m still gonna try for it to be.
Now I’ve got to think about NaNoWriMo, Because it’s gonna be here bloody soon! Feel free to add me on nanowrimo.org just search my name. I’ve got no idea what I’m going to be writing for it, but I’m sure I’ll come up with something.
Right, my brain is a little frazzled now. So, I’m going to chill out a bit.
This morning I’ve worked through the first episode of the vampire book. That’s 13368 words I’ve read through. This wasn’t a deep edit by any means. This story is almost done and this final read through is just to try and find any little grammar and spelling mistakes, plot holes I’ve missed and to make sure the continuity is okay after the recent changes I made to two of the episodes. These changes did bind a certain plot line up beautifully.
Now, when editing I tend to hit about 10k and my brain checks out, which it has. I pushed myself for those last 3368 words I think so now I’m longing out to do some bits and bobs around the house and chill out a little.
Howdy folks, just a quick post tonight. I’ve edited 1403 words on Black Blood and done a little planning on Penal Earth book 2. I kept thinking about scenes and plot lines, but I think diving in full steam ahead without any direction then I’m gonna end up hitting a brick wall, or seven!
So I’ve started a basic map out of what I want to do. A lot of what will end up being in book two will be taken from an original draft of the first book, including an element that I was scared I’d have to cut as it didn’t really advance the plot, but now I’ve got an idea to tie it all in nicely.
Right, I’m wrapping it up for the night, have a great one all.
Today I’ve written 611 words on a short story I’ve recently started during my break and while I was waiting for something this afternoon. I was hoping to have got a good chunk of Penal Earth worked today but a few things came up that I had to see to and although I had time to write it was with pen and paper as I didn’t have access to my laptop.
I liked what I wrote though, and although I’ve got no idea where this story is going I’m enjoying the discovery aspect of it.
I spent an hour or so this afternoon after work in the garden. Partly to play ball with Max as he hasn’t had much playtime due to a lot going on the last few weeks (needless to say he loved it!) but I also needed to top up the bird feeders, do the poopa scooping; both of which I can do while still punting the football up the garden for Max to chase. I also done the cat litter, sorted the bins out for collection tomorrow, and got a load of washing done.
Now, I get this may not seem like much. It’s not really worth noting, everyone does these things. But considering how tired I was I could have easily just got home, let Max out and have a nap. And I feel so much better for it.
It also means once I’ve finished work tomorrow and ran a couple of errands I’ll have a nice chunk of time to get some words edited and then on Wednesday when its my day off I’ll be able to dedicate a bigger slot of time to writing.
This is a level of organisation I’ve only dreamt of for many years!
I am up, I’m almost awake and very nearly ready to get writing for the day. I have an online write-in with my local NaNo group this morning and I’m hoping to be able to get some strong progress with this zombie ending rewrite. I’d really like to be done with it in the next couple of days and get that scratched off my to-do list.
My desk chair recently broke so I’m using a folding dining table one, and boy is it no comfy! So I’m hoping this’ll spur on the urge to get as much done as quickly as possible, while still retaining the quality. Wish me luck with that one!
I’m also itching to get into the edit passes of the other stories that are screaming at me. So again, I’m eager to get Zombie wrapped but I can’t rush it and need to make sure the quality stays there. That’s what I’m trying to focus on at the moment. Making sure it’s gripping, that the reader can’t take their eyes away from the words. I’m anxious I’m not pulling it off, but until it’s done and typed up and I’ve let it rest for a week or two I don’t feel I should be judging it. Even then that’s when I need to send it off to Beta readers and see what their thoughts are.
Okay, I’m off to get cracking. The write-in starts in half an hour and I’d like to get next week mapped out before that starts.
I hope you all have an awesome weekend. Even if it’s chaotically busy try and make a little time for a little self care and some time with loved ones.
Good afternoon, folks! How are we all doing today?
I gave written 300 words, had a good tidy up in the office. Set my goals for the month and am knackered. So I’m going to write this post and then chill out with a little gaming.
I’m not sure how much I need to write to wrap up the zombie ending rewrite, I don’t think it’s going to be a lot but I feel it’s coming along well. I’m getting some of the risk that wasn’t in the original into it now, but still need to build that more and better. I think at the moment it’s kind of smashed in and I’d like it to be a little smoother.
I hope you’re all having a great demand have an epic weekend!
