The Hollow Supporters

This is not a short story, although with a title like that it could be.  What I want to talk about today is the people who we have around us that make promises of support which never get followed through with.  I’ve had people promise me help with my blog and building a website (that sounded good because I am useless with computers)  But this never happened.  I sometimes have people who ask to read my stuff (non Writers) who never get back to me, so I assume that they did not like my stuff which is fair enough.  I suppose that I could chase them up but it’s not in my nature to bug people.  But its the people who make promises to be pro-active and help us with our work and then never follow through that annoy me.  I don’t offer my help if I don’t intend to follow through.  To me it seems like the people that do this like the idea of helping out a writer because its got a novelty factor, but they quickly forget about it and wonder off to the next shiny thing.  I am lucky, I have a copy editor who is more than happy to look at my work and two Beta Readers who are writers themselves and give me two totally different points of view which is great.  I’ve also just tricked a non writer friend into reading my stuff (I don’t think she’s realised what she’s in for lol).  Joking aside I suppose my point is, don’t count on the offer of help until your actually getting that help.

    • It is something that annoys me but I do have those few realiable people who have made me a better writer. That is something that i regret not doing sooner, finding other writers to connect with.
