Tonight I’ve decided to stop working on the piece that I’ve been doing for the last couple of weeks because I’m running into dead ends with it. I keep doing this; going off half-cocked with an idea and just ploughing through until I either finish or a hit a problem; which is what’s happened. I’ve come to a point where the story needs to expand and I’m not sure the best way to do it. I’ve tried to introduce elements to allow the expansion but it feels forced and a little cliched. I need to take some time and think it out and figure out where I want to go with it.

This same thing has happened with my vampire book; I can’t find the right path to take it. I know where I want it to end but I can’t figure out how to get there. It feels like I’ve lost my way a bit and I’m stumbling through it, which I do a lot. When I get stuck on something I stumble around with it, then I stumble to another new idea and try and make that work. So I’m going to throw myself back into my NaNoWriMo story, which is about the most complete piece I have at the moment. I do have some Beta notes to sort through on my first vampire book which I’m planning on working through, I’m kind of hoping that’ll help me find that voice for it again.

With My NaNo story though; It’s a bit of a mess but I have got a solid story in the heart of it. I’ve just printed it off so I can go through it and see what wants saving and what will be cut. I think I’ve just got to rewrite the beginning and write an ending for it. I’m pretty sure I know how I want it to end. I have got a few changes I want to make as well but all in all I think I’ve got something that I can work with here.

I think this will be a good course of action to go down as I’ll be working a different part of my brain for a week or two before I start the serious work of filling in the bits I need to fill in.

From this point on I’m not working on any new ideas this year. Everything I’m going to focus on will either be pieces that are already planned out, in the planning stages or like this NaNo piece or my second vampire book. Pieces that are in some way being worked on. Everything else will be on the back burner and at most will have planning done on them.

I’m beginning to feel like I’m rambling so I’m off for the night.
