Folkestone – 27/6/25

I cannot remember the last time I was in Folkestone. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say it’s got to be a good twenty-five years plus. My reason for the trip, I wanted to pop to a shop who had a booth at Horrified. Sorting Gifts has merch which has my name written all over it! Although this day they were launching their little corner of Petticoat Lane Emporium in Folkestone. So I thought, stuff it, let’s pop down anyway. Although what they’d primarily stocked was Harry Potter merch (not really my cup of tea) I did get a candle that smells amazing, and a badass Jurassic Park print. I spent some time chatting to the owners as well and will definitely be popping down again to check out their shop. I neglected to take pictures but if you check out their social media you’ll see how well they set their plot up.

If you see one of these places, go in!

Before I got to the emporium I walked along the Leas which was near where I parked. I took a quick selfie and just headed in a direction that felt right. It had a good feel and was clean and well looked after. There was these squares of flower plots that I liked for their simplicity but also their colour and overall vibe.

I’d seen this arch as soon as I’d stepped out from the car park entrance, and was curious (and quite possibly the reason I’d walked that way). When I got there I saw lots of crochet poppy’s and a seating area where there was plaques. As I looked closer I saw that this was primarily a tribute to the people who fought in the First World War. Each plaque had a different slice of history and all the poppy’s were powerful. I found myself being struck by the monument. The thought that had gone into it was impressive and how that thought had been put into reality served to share facts from that time, and as a memorial to those who sacrificed so much in that nightmare of a war.

I was moved by it, and it made something that happened over a century ago feel very real. I’ve not seen many memorials overall, but I’ve not seen one like this before. I’m so glad I found this, it made me think of my grandad who served in World War 2 and Korea.

I didn’t really explore the town or seafront too much. Although my anxiety is in a really good place at the moment it was still a new town and I was down there for a couple of hours and felt that was a good start. The seafront looks really inviting and I’m gonna explore it better next time I’m down there.

I stumbled across a shop, Wolf Wear, and oh my god! This shop is awesome! I bought an awesome Punisher hoodie that I can’t wait to be wearing once autumn hits.

The town as a whole seemed inviting, and somewhere I’d like to explore a little deeper. It seemed to have a good vibe to it.
