My First Published Book

If you saw my post a few days ago you’ll know that my first book, “Is That A Zombie?” is out. It’s a novella in three parts of three different moments in the first few days of the zombie apocalypse.

To say it’s been a long time coming is an understatement. I’ve writing for the last twenty years, getting serious about it for the last seven years or so, and only now getting a book out. Not one that is an anthology with numerous other authors, but one which lives or dies on my ability as a wordsmith.

My original timeline was to have it out in 2020, but numerous non-writing life elements kept putting it back. Mainly cash flow, because I wanted a good cover, I had to have it edited, and there was formatting for ebook and paperback which I have no idea about needed.

I am thrilled with the cover, it surpassed my expectations by quite some distance. The cover artist, David Davies did an incredible job with the cover. From the first moment I approached him it was collaborative and he did what I couldn’t and put the elements together to make the cover that I wanted, and he had the patience to put up with me as I faffed around. I could not have wished for a better person to have worked with for this first cover and I hope it’ll be the first of many I work with him on.

The same goes for the editing, Em Dehaney took her blood red pen to my manuscript and made the novella so much better than I could have done. I don’t care what anyone says, you need someone to go through your work.

As for the formatting, I reached out to Red Cape Publishing and they have put their talent and made the book look amazing. (Paperback is coming) If Em Dehaney couldn’t edit my work, they’d be my next port of call.

I was extremely honoured when the epic Chuck Buda agreed to provide a Blurb for me. What he said about the book was amazing and better than I could ever have come up with!

Here is the Blub that Chuck wrote for me.

Peter Germany’s work infuses suspenseful horror with natural comedic timing. Fans of Shaun of the Dead and The Fast and the Furious will find it devilishly delicious. – Chuck Buda, author of Tourniquet

There’s also people like Cat and Lynx Raven who beta read the novella, and honestly, they’ve been two of my biggest supporters over the years and I cannot thank them enough! My mum, who also beta read this book. Friends like Stefan, Steph, Chrystalyn, Adele, Sally, Paul, Jemma, Armand, Chuck, Nicola, Owen, Leah, Jef, David, Christopher, The Mando Mafia, and so many more (sorry I can’t name you all but you know who you are. My family obviously, Mum and Dad, and brother. Who have all been there through the years. Recently I’ve started seeing someone and it was a lot easier uploading the book with her sitting next to me calming the nerves. Thank you Alice.

I’ve learnt a lot about the process as well. For the next one I’ll be a lot better prepared.

There will be a next one, and it won’t take another god knows how many years to make it happen.
