A Change Of Direction

I’ve been struggling with how to get my work out there quicker than I have been able to. The major hurdle, outside of my own doubts about my ability, is financial. I have two books that are ready for an external edit, a third that isn’t too far off, and Penal Earth 2 maybe six months out from needing an editor. Once they are edited, formatting, and then cover art. I’m sure I could learn formatting, but I’m not willing to chance not hiring an outside editor or a cover artist.

When I do start building up those funds, something goes pear shaped. ( I need to look up why Pear Shaped is a saying for something going wrong. welcome to my mind, folks!) Back to things going the shape of something that grows on a tree, I’d get some money saved up, and I’d have to replace a tyre. Or an exhaust, or one of many other reasons. This is life, I get this. We all have these hurdles that pop up. Writing is not how I earn a living. I work in a supermarket, which I adore, and it also funds my writing. Something that I do because I love it. I adore creating worlds and the characters that fill them, but I accept that I’ll likely never make a living from writing. I’d like to get to the point where I’m covering the expenses but I can live with it if I don’t.

Now, what’s next? I’m going to serialise my work on my Ko-Fi page. I’ve done this already with my Vampire Era novel, and I will begin uploading chapters of Black Blood there very shortly. This story is all but ready to go and I’ve started on a final edit pass, this isn’t going to be a massive edit. It’s more of a once over to tidy a few loose strands up.

I’m really happy with this story, and although I’m not holding any high expectations with regards to how many people are going to come and ‘tip me’ over there, but it’ll be available if people want to ‘tip me’ and start reading.
