Tonight I wrapped up my NaNoWriMo story, 9477 words short of the 50,000. So I need to go back and start filling in some of the little huge plot holes that are in the story. There are a few scenes that I want to add as well as a few bits of detail here and there.
As I was writing the story I noticed that I was going at quite a pace at times and there was a lot I wanted to include as I was writing. I’m not sure that I’ll still hit the 50k but I had decided before I started NaNoWriMo that the word count didn’t matter, I just wanted to get a story written. I’ve done that so I am rather happy now 🙂
Just a short little post tonight, if you’re doing NaNoWriMo I hope the words are coming easily and if you’re not I hope your being productive or at least having fun 🙂

congrats! that’s exciting, and you have plenty of time to figure out what to add to make 50k by the end of the month 🙂 I’ll root for you!

Wow that’s great! I think it’s better to finish the story than to reach the 50k words. I am 7000 words away from 50k but I am still in the middle of the plot and I don’t know yet how to bring my characters where I want them to be. I guess I’ll have to cut a lot of useless and slow parts once I am done with NaNo.

I have got more to add but I’m not going to add anything which isn’t something that can be kept if it looks and sounds right.
It sounds like you’ve got an exciting journey ahead with your characters 🙂

I just realised that, if I want to keep the pace so slow in order to make things happen with the right timing, I need to write some back stories or the reader won’t get to know the characters enough when things finally evolve.
However, for now, I just want to get to the end of the plot!

That’s part of what I need to do, I’ve given the reader a few little bits of information but there’s a lot I can elaborate on.

Congrats 🙂 I’m mostly just astonished (and impressed!) that you’re able to contain a story in under 50k. I babble so much that I’m lucky if I can keep a story under 120k, lol.

I’m the opposite at the moment, I’m not writing anything longer then about 40k. I need to put more detail in.
Is that how you write? Lots of detail?

I wouldn’t say I use a lot of detail. I think it’s just that I’m so used to reading longer books that when I sit down and write one, the story that comes to mind happens to be one that takes 100-120k words to write out.

That’s not far off the length of many novels, 80k to 100k words is quite a common book length isn’t it 🙂

I think YA novels usually clock in somewhere between 80-100K … romance novels tend to be shorter … and then fantasy is usually 100K +

Yeah I think Fantasy is expected to long and epic, I struggle with epic fantasy personally. More of a sci-fi man 🙂
