Sending Out A Story Solo

Although I am not ready to send off any of my vampire stories something has been popping in and out of my head about them today; do I send an individual story off to see if I can sell it to a magazine or an anthology or keep them all together and try to sell them as a collection of stories in one volume?  I’m one of those people who like things to be done in order, so in a perfect world I’d like these stories to be read in the correct order but the strongest story is not the first.  I know I’ll struggle to sell each one of the stories so I was thinking that if I try to get the strongest published that will hopefully build up some interest then look to getting the rest of them published as a collection, maybe even if I do so myself.  If a magazine of anthology publish the strongest story am I allowed to then re-publish it myself?  I’ll have to look into that.  All that said the stories are not close to being ready.  A fellow blogger and writer had a look at the first of these stories and she made some good suggestions.  One of which was to start the story earlier and the more that I’ve thought about it the more I like the idea 🙂  I have got to iron out a few details in these stories so unfortunately this is not a problem that I have to deal with just yet but it is something that would not leave my head for the best part of the day.  Weird.

  1. Hey man, I’m an aspiring writer myself and was wondering if you had any of your work up somewhere to read? I’d like to check it out; vampires are uber popular but in all the wrong ways right now. It’s time for them to be scary again.

    • Hello 🙂 I have not got any or my work public yet and my vampire fiction is quite some way from being ready for the public for a number of reasons but I do agree that vampires need to be scary once more. I’d like to think that mine are but not in the traditional sense. What type of things do you write?

      • Sorry, I’m still new to WordPress and JUST saw your message.
I’ve written multiple genres from world war two to sci fi and post apocalyptic to swords and magic; so typically fantasy. I prefer the forgotten realms style but I always tend to blend psychological aspects into it.
I wrote chapter or two of a vampire story called the Guardian a few years back that’s on my site you might wanna check out.
