During December I put a lot of thought into what I need to do to tidy up my novel Earth, After Liberation. This was my NaNoWriMo novel so the draft I have is a little shaky but overall I am very happy with what I have here. My biggest concern at the moment is a gap in the story which is nine months long. This gap in the story feels like a cop out on my part. In this period of time I should be detailing a lot of character development and adding to the world building that I have already got in the story. Some of the details that I explain later on would work a lot better in this nine month gap.
I’ve scribbled down a lot of areas and subjects that I need to research and I will no doubt come across more as I work through the second draft.
This next week, maybe ten days, I’m going to resist diving into working on the second draft and do my research. Some of which involves watching a bit of the World War 2 documentary The World At War and two series of a TV programme. Plus many hours scouring the internet and an hour or so location scouting.
I’d like to have the second draft done by February so from tomorrow I’m going to be getting cracking.
