Outlining

In case you didn’t notice, I didn’t give an update on NaNoWriMo yesterday. This is for the simple reason that I’ve passed the 50k target, and now the story is done. 1st draft complete!

So what now? Now I am outline for the re-write of Earth, After Liberation. The book I wrote for NaNo is Earth, After Liberation’s sequel and as the second book is (I think) much better written and structured then the current draft of Earth, After Liberation I’m just going to re-write it. This was something I’d all but decided to do even before NaNo.

I was hoping to have the outline done yesterday so I could start writing today, but that didn’t happen. I massively underestimated how much work and time would be need to get the outline done, despite the fact that I’m not changing a whole lot about the story itself. I’ll like to be ready to start writing again a week today on the 1st of December, but that depends on how long it takes me to get the outline done. Starting on the 1st would be good though as I’d like to have the first draft of the re-write done by the 1st of February, I’m not going to try and knock it out in twenty or so days like I did its sequel for NaNo. Then once it’s done I’ll edit both back-to-back.

One thing I’ve learnt from this is I’m not a pantser, not for long form writing anyhow, and if I’m writing multiple books which cover the course of one story I need to outline them all before I start writing the first one.

I will just end by saying that I’ve not written since the 22nd, I don’t like it. I need to get this outline done so I can get writing again. For all future projects I’m going to have outlines ready for when I finish a project. I’m not happy with not writing at the moment.
