5th of September 2019

Hey folks. Today I’ve made a few edits on CS1 and had a play around with a fan fiction piece.

I’m in editing mode. I keep writing new fiction which isn’t going anywhere when I should be editing. If I’ve got my laptop or desktop I’m editing. Screw word counts for the moment. If I don’t hit my minimum target for the year, does it matter? As long as I can look back at the year and see progress then it’s been a successful year.

So my plan at the moment is to get a completed edit pass done on CS1 before NaNoWriMo. I’ve left myself plenty of time to get it done as well as getting prepped for NaNo. Unless I see an anthology invite I won’t be trying to write new fiction until NaNo, with the exception of the fan fiction. But that’s just for fun.

That’s me done for the night. I’ve not felt especially well tonight (nothing to worry about, just a little under the weather), so I’m off to bed.

4th of September 2019

Good evening folks. It feels like it’s been a busy week, and in some ways it has. The day job is always busy but with writing I don’t feel like I’ve really got my teeth stuck in at all. Part of that is I feel like I’ve ran dry on the couple of short stories I’ve been working on. One I feel could be something a little bigger, while the other just died out after a couple of hundred words. So I’ve gone into editing mode again and have started on the CS1 edit. I’m planning on rewriting a lot of the ending and adding a lot more detail in the early stages that’ll make things later on work better. As I was writing it sub-plots came about that have no base in the early stages of the story. There’s also a few elements which I let drop accidentally as the story moved forward. So I’m going to pick those up as I go. I’m glad I’ve left this story for a while as I feel like I’ve got a better handle on it now I’ve let it simmer.

I’ll end up by sharing the link for my next story release. I have a story in the upcoming Elements of Horror: Air: Book Two. (Click the link for the pre-order). It’s released on the 1st of October. This story was one of those that came very easily and I knew where I was going with from quite an early part of the writing process. This is book two of four of a series from Red Cape Publishing. There’s a few more details here.

That’s it for tonight. I’m wiped out and my bed is calling.

Good Morning, Sunday 1st of September 2019

Wow, the 1st of September already. Two months till NaNoWriMo…..

Right, not thinking about NaNo just yet. Yesterday my plan didn’t quite go to, plan but I still got the core of what I wanted done, done. I learnt a lesson that I really need to have sink in. I don’t need to be in a perfect environment to edit. I cracked on with Zombie edits again last night and made some good progress with it. I do have an editor lined up to look it over but not the cash yet. But that gives me a little helping hand as it’ll give me time to let it sit for a couple more weeks and I’ll have another look at it before I send it off.

Today I’m going to look at CS1 and start getting that shaped up. I too often get preoccupied with hitting a word count for a day, but I need to learn how to balance things out and get what feels like a ton of editing done. I’ve still got short stories from last years NaNo that I haven’t polished.

That said, I’m at a write-in so I probably won’t get much done at all! Outside of November (NaNo season) we don’t write much during write-ins, but we have some great conversations.

With that said, I need to get my arse in gear. Have a great Sunday folks. If you’re working I hope it’s a productive one. If you’re chilling out, I hope it’s a peaceful one.

Failed Already

My alarm was set for 6am, 7:15am I got out of bed. No time for words to be written. No time to maybe read a little. Just enough time to get ready for work, and drink a cup of tea(writing this while waiting for tea to cool to drinking temperature).

Yesterday was extremely frustrating. Today hasn’t started how I envisioned it but I can’t see why it should change anything when it comes to the rest of the day. Once work is done I’ll clean the henhouse out. Then have a bath and then, editing! I want to have this pass done tonight so tomorrow I can get some new words written.

Right, the tea should be just right now. Have a great day and weekend, folks!

30th of August 2019

My big plan for the night was to dive into editing, but I got sidetracked by writing a post (rant) about the new Terminator film and those that have come before. As I was wrapping that up my desktop had a hissy fit and shut down again. I’m thinking it may just be the heat but we’ll see.

If I’m honest, that’s kind of summed up my day. Nothing super bad has happened, but just lots of irritating little things. When the desktop had it’s fit I came up to my room, put Shaun of the Dead on and finished the Terminator post. Now I’m going to finish watching Shaun of the Dead and then dive into Chaos Tales I by Christopher Law. So far I’m enjoying this anthology and am looking forward to seeing what else is in store.

28th of August 2019

Good evening folks. Today I’ve written 510 words on a new short story, and have worked on another section of the zombie book. Yesterday I wrote 851 words on what was going to be a submission but I’m not going to get it done before the deadline hits.

I’ve done the editing on my desktop this evening as it’s working but I’ll be keeping an eye on it.

I did finish a lot earlier than I was expecting tonight. It’s almost 9pm now and I’ve been finished for a while but I like working in sections when editing and if I’d started the next section it would be gone 10pm by the time I would be done. So I’m going to do that one Friday night.

A lot of this weekend is going to be ‘get shit done’. I’ve got a lot of stuff that has been backing up or things I want to be getting done so I’m just going to get stuck in and see how much I manage to get through.

I did finally finish Anarch by Dan Abnett. This was a highly anticipated book for me and it didn’t let me down. There was a couple of things in it that I found frustrating but over all it was a really good read.

Audiobook wise I’m halfway through Summoner of Souls by Chuck Buda. This is his third Son of Earp supernatural western series which I’m enjoying a lot.

I’m absolutely loving this cover!

Thats it for now. I’m going to watch a movie and then might read a little.

Good Morning 27th of August 2019

The past weekend didn’t go to plan, but I’m not disappointed. I had an awesome weekend with my girlfriend and I’m pretty damn good with that.

I got not writing done, and probably not going to have this short story done in time for the deadline, but it is what it is. I’ll get the story finished and see if I can find another home for it.

Something that’s been floating around my brain for the last twenty-four hours or so is what novels I’m going to work on next. I’ve pretty much decided on PE3 being next years big one. I’m getting quite a good idea of what I need to change and what is salvageable from what I’ve already written but I don’t want to just dive in like I normally do. I’m going to collect all my notes and map out what I need to put in and where I need to expand on a few things.

I’ve got a couple of novel length stories in mind and what I think I’ve got to do is set out that I do one a year. At least until I’ve fine tuned my system. Before I start on them I need to have planned out what I’m doing, and that is the difficult part at the moment for me. But I’d like to think I’m moving in the right direction there.

If I stick to one novel a year I’m still going to be working on short stories and novellas around that one novel. I’m not but any means capable of just doing the one story at a time, let alone one a year.

Right, that’s it for now. Have a great day, folks!
