Writing Update

At the start of the year I set myself various goals with regards to my writing and I’ve hit very few of them.  One of which was to begin submitting my work and get that first rejection and begin working towards getting my first sale.  I havent.  Part of which is a confidence thing.  I do doubt my work A fair bit which does hold me back but I am getting over that doubt that is within me.  Another factor in not sending anything off is the fact that most of what I have completed this year have been short stories that are part of A connected universe that I am not ready to show to the world yet.  There are a half-dozen or so of these stories and they need a damn good edit to eliminate any continuity issues.  There are a few little bits and pieces that I want to change in them as well.  Also I’ve found that with a couple of other stories that I’ve written I have had a few ideas that I want to add to them which I think will build the story and make it deeper and more complete.  So I’m thinking that leaving a story for maybe a few months and then going back to it is more beneficial than I realised it could be.  This is something that I have heard other writers mention but its only now that I see what they’re talking about.

Another one of my targets is to have written about A thousand words a week.  I’ve got the WriteChain app on my iPhone and according to that I’ve written 51,408 as of today.  I downloaded that at the end of may so I need to go back and see what I listen in my diary to see what my word count was before the end of may so I know that I’ve hit that target.  For the next year I have a few other targets that I want to hit, Sending out submissions is top of that list.  So I need to start researching and finding my target markets for my fiction.

But before that I need to finish NaNoWriMo and then I can wrap up another short story and get my christmas story written.

    • Thanks 🙂 My biggest problem is dicipline which NaNo has helped with. It’s shown me that I can knock the words out when I need to. Have you got an agent or are you still looking?

    • I found it really easy if I’m honest. Obviously the target was 52k words this year but since I’ve been doing NaNoWriMo I’ve found that I can write far more then that so I’m currently trying to decide what to increase my target to.
