Knocking Words Out

I am currently sitting in my folks car waiting for my mum to return from an appointment at what is a midpoint in what’ll be a busy morning of getting shit done! I’ve got work this evening and then my daughter this weekend so need to get a few bits ready for her, but also have a few errands to run as well. And I’m trying to do this all by 1pm so I can relax for a bit before heading off to work.

Knowing I’d have a busy day I managed to get my chunky arse into the chair and write, managing just over a thousand words in about ninety minutes or so.

This rams home just how efficient I can be when I’ve got my head in the right space. I knew I’d have little time to write, so I got up when my alarm went off (with a little help from Raven 🙄). Wrote while I ate my breakfast, didn’t faff about with a playlist, just hitting play on the first one YouTube showed me and writing. Once I’d finished eating my health breakfast of All Bran I only stopped writing to adjust how I was sitting (I’m a fidget bum) and I don’t think I checked my word count until about 8:45, which was when I was planning on stopping to crack on with the non-writing tasks on my to-do list. But I saw I was at something like 840 words for the day, so I cracked on for another ten, fifteen minutes and passed the 1000 word mark, finishing up with 1040 words for the session.

Now, how did I do that when I’ve really struggled other times to get the words out. I think a big part of it is having that small slot of time to get some words for the day down. Some of it is also I didn’t get as much written yesterday as I was hoping. Another factor is I’ve had a couple of decent nights sleep the last couple of days. I think good sleep has been particularly good in that when I was writing this morning I wasn’t second guessing myself. Even now, writing this post I’m not having any doubts about what I’m sharing I’m just letting it flow.

This collection of elements has got words written this morning, but I can’t replicate that. I need to focus on making sure the things I can recreate I am. Good sleep being the biggest element of all. When we have a healthy amount of sleep, life runs much smoother I’ve found.
